Another possibilty would be helping out at a shelter or breed rescue group for a few hours a week. Helping out can involve playing with the animals - does not have to be strenuous. There are breed rescues and no-kill shelters for the particularly tender-hearted. Many of these groups are desperate for volunteers, and will make every effort to meet their needs.
