Hi,
I am seventeen years old and my mom is two years out of squeamus cell carcinoma surgery that removed her palate and five teeth. It started as a small sore in her cheek and got worse really fast. The doctors first told her that it was not cancer and then that it was they kept going back and forth three or four times untill finally they biopysed it and finally it showed for sure that it was cancer. they scheduled her for surgery the next week, and she went in really early in the morning and came out in the afternoon. I first saw her in the ICU that night and then came back in the morning to find her in a private room where they had forgotten her and not given her her pain meds. she was in so much pain it hurt her to cry. we got the nurse and my dad was about to blow a gasket while kept trying to downplay it. after that me or my dad was always with her i slept in a chair for the week she was there everytime her machine went off i had to go get the nurse cause they never came on time. we finally got her home and two weeks later katrina struck, My mom couldn't drive so we took our van and piled 4 dogs,4 birds, a guinea pig, and a fish (not to mention the 4 humans) and drove to texas. needless to say my mom couldnt get any treatment out there and two weeks later we came back to find that there were no doctors anywhere. finally, we managed to locate a one of her doctors and two and a half months later we managed to get her seen. that was when she started the long, long road to recovery. the phisycal therapy and the pills and the pain and yet she remained my mom through and through. she's done with the phisycal therapy. its been two years and i think that were beginning to see the old mom again. there are still times when i cant seem to reach her but we always get through it and there worth every minute of it when shes happy again. for any teens out there that have gone through this or are going through this remember this they raised you and took care of you now it time to give some of that back.
