I know quite a few cancer patients that wish they had quit smoking or never had started. It's a tough thing to do, but the damaging effects are impossible to undo.
I'm going through this right now with my dental assistant of 25 years who has lung cancer with nmets to the brain.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.
