Your questions may not get as many answers as others because your mother has a different kind of cancer. You ask about radical neck dissection and many of us have had that. However, I do not know if the RND is the correct treatment for your mother. As far as it goes, RND is not all that disfiguring. Many people I meet do not notice my scars unless I mention them. (perhaps they are being polite)
Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
