After all this time I finally started jogging again. Beside the fact that I suck (!!), the problem for longer distances is breathing (dry mouth). Any tricks, suggestions or is this just one of these things to live with? (I realize that this is a good problem to have and I am not complaining) Obviously, breathing through the nose would be better.

BTW, congrats on getting back into jogging. :-) Margaret ---------- C/G: Husband, 48 (at time of dx) Dx 5/18/07 SCC, BOT, lymph node involvement. T1N2BM0. This is same now as it was before I had OC, but I don't seem to get as many miles to the bottle as I got before.
There is a public park, sports field, or city rec center within a mile or so any direction from my house. They all have public drinking fountains, so I have always jogged and hiked a route between them.
There are also several very large regional trail parks a 10-15 minute drive with public drinking fountains. I sometimes go to one of them.

BABY STEPS!!
I found that the Camelback was a nuisance and I actually found that after a few outings all I needed was my water bottle(s) on my bike just like always. It also helped me a lot if I didn't talk while riding. Breathing thru my mouth didn't matter either. After a few times I was back to really normal hydration needs and remember a little squirt goes a long way to counter the dry mouth so if I were you before I spend $50 + for a Camelback I would just carry a 16oz water bottle filled with half and half water and OJ, a cheap man's efficient energy drink.
Remember baby steps while getting back into shape. Start off with a week of walking increasing with longer distances and faster pace. Then a week of fast pace walking mixed with jogging periods and increasing distance. Next week jogging with increasing distance and periods of sprints, etc. The weekly periods I mentioned may have to be increased to 2 weeks depending upon how out of shape you are and it doesn't take long to get out of shape. You need to SLOWLY increase your aerobic capacity and SLOWLY condition your muscles. If you over do it now it can set you back for weeks both mentally and physically. I was a Certified Aerobics Instructor and taught aerobics for years and years at places like Bally's. I would still like to teach but I just can't find the time plus they would probably want to teach that seniors water class for insurance purposes...over my 60 yr old body!

This link to REI shows Camelback going for more like $100 and more: http://www.rei.com/search?query=hydratin&button.x=0&button.y=0 Since most of your money is going for the carrying pack, what I did was just get the bladder and tube and put them in a daypack I already had -- More useful than the hydration pack because I could carry more stuf if desired (I used it mostly for day hikes) -- I also cut a piece of backpacker sleeping foam, folded and sewed it to make an insulated 'pocket' for the bladder to keep it cooler longer. http://www.platypushydration.com/product_detail.aspx?ProdID=9&CategoryID=2 Actually, I found one on sale at the Visitor's Center of Bryce Canyon Natl Park one year for even less. Difference between the bladders and bottles is that the former can be hands-free if set up right, but the latter can be squirted to back of mouth for rinsing. Also, if one desires filtered water or energy mix, then the bladder is better than one bottle refilled enroute. I'm glad this subject emerged -- I needed reminding that my Platypus bladder and hose need cleaning.
