The commercial will focus on people's stories and will show those who have prevailed. Brian Hill kindly granted me his permission to post here. The audition will be held in NYC on Wednesday, November 12th. The reimbursement fees are $574.00 for the day plus travel and expenses. There will be residuals as the commercial will be playing around the country. The commercial is for a really good cause, related to a particular chemotherapy. I cannot disclose the company or drug at this time. However I have discussed it with Mr. Hill, and he approves of my soliciting individuals here. He only other option will be to use professional actors, and he agrees with me that actual survivors will add a credibility to the effort not obtainable through any other method. If interested please contact me at [email protected]Thank you for letting me post. Caroline

That is the point, not a specific chemical even though the company makes several. If you don't call and ask questions, you won't know the details... I don't have them. The clock is ticking on the opportunity.

There are so many survivors with wonderful accounts of strength and courage. So much determination and caring. So many very talented medical teams. If this is just a commercial it is opeing a whole new world. I think it should also include the care givers and their journeys. But it is not up to me
In my city there is a local journalist who survived tonsil cancer and she has really educated a lot of people on oral cancer and this week is doing an hour long interview telling her fight. Detection and awareness of oral cancer is growing. Even my physiotherapist has never worked with someone who has had my surgery although she knows someone who has. People are becoming more and more aware of Oral Cancer. This is what is needed to save people from having to endure some of the treatments needed to survive.

I was just saying to Brian the other day that I wanted to see oral cancer commercials on tv. They have one for so many but not oral cancer. It would be so great if we can get oral cancer on the air waves. Since my walk, I have received so many inquiries about oral cancer awareness and that was just from a small walk! Imagine what we could accomplish on a national level!!

If the shoot is in Philadelphia, I may be able to do it depending on the time. Don't know if I qualify since I had NO chemo, but a two time cancer survivor with two neck dissections and trach might do. I will email her but someone is going to have to send me Sarah Palin's wardrobe. I live in dunagarees.

And if they do not get the head count they need they will have to fill the void with actors. They don't want to do that but will if it's a must. I would love to go being 45 minutes outside of Philly or a little more then an hour away from Manhattan. I usually let any excuse happen for a Manhattan trip but I'm having a difficult time post-tx and I'm not physically capable of a trip at this time. Hpefully they get the people needed!

Tomorrow, I will forward your letter to my producer. They do have different casting directors working around the country so perhaps there is someone in Florida. Lets see what we can work out. I know this because that is what I grew up calling jeans. There was no such thing as jeans when I was a kid.
Any way, I have an appointment in NYC on Wednesday with Caroline and the producers. I spoke to her this morning. I have been away for a few days and didn't know about this until last night when I got an email about it. I didn't know that Philly was an option, but I happen to be off on Wednesday, so that works for me.
Should be an interesting experience.
BTW, I was told that there is no monetary compensation for going to the audition. Only for the taping of the commercial.

I would be there too if I could, though even without this newest heart challenge it would have been difficult on such short notice. I can't even think of someone nearby with the equipment to record me. Best of luck to you all. I know I for one will be very proud to have you represent us. BTW, I'm not sitting idle. I'm working on ideas on how to get the Oral sex/ HPV/OC info out to the youth (hopefully without incurring the ire of those against ANY mention of sex education in schools). My husband and I work with a youth group - young men ages 12 to 21 - and we have a strong youth protection program. That's a place to start, I think, but nowhere near enough exposure. A frightening number of children of 11 and 12 years old are sexually active and thinking that oral sex is "safe", and these children's parents in most cases have absolutely no clue. The thought of children and youth becoming our newest rising number of OC victims is incomprehensible. Lani

It is possible to send video file the same way you send pictures, BUT, those files can and do get quite large for email. May want to ask Caroline how she prefers the stuff to be sent. The better option may be to burn to a CD or DVD and send it via regular old snail mail or FedEx.
Caroline, if you're still reading, help on this...

Head &Neck cancer is basically from the throat up, but excludes the Brain and the Esophagus. H&N cancer is most common on the Oral cavity (mouth and/or tongue), Examples: Nasopharyx, Larynx (voicebox), and the Oropharynx and Hypopharynx (Base of tongue, soft palate, tonsils, etc). We are looking for people who have compelling stories to share. Short private interviews will take place on November 13th in Philadelphia for consideration of a commercial project (and possible print/web.. to be determined). You do not have to be an actor or performer. This project will pay an excellent SAG rate (i.e the professional union rate - Screen Actors Guild) as well as usage fees and travel. If chosen, the shoot will take place on December 2nd. If you are unavailable for the interview but would like to be considered, please contact Kathy Wickline Casting. Kathy Wickline Casting Ask for Molly or Kathy at: 215-739-9952 or by email: [email protected] (see usagenext page) Usage: The ultimate goal is to create an awareness campaign that may include TV, print and web. I know there is talk of creating a DRTV (Direct Response TV) ad that features people sharing their personal stories and possibly concludes with a call to action graphic for viewers to call a 1-800 number and/or visit a website to get more information about H&NC. This ad may air nationally depending on the media buys it receives. As for the print usage, there may be a newspaper/magazine/web component too but at the very least posters and/or banners, featuring people and their stories, will most likely be created and displayed (internally). What will take place at the interview? Please share your personal story with us by spending a few minutes (as many as you feel comfortable with giving but no more than 10-15 minutes) on camera answering the following questions: Tell us a little about your experience with cancer -- * How and when were you diagnosed? * What was your reaction to being diagnosed? * What treatment are you currently receiving or have you received -- any medication(s)? If so, what kind? * Is there any history of cancer in your family? * What has the impact of having cancer been on your life, family? * What has been your greatest source of support during this experience? * Anything you would like to say to someone going through a similar situation as yours or perhaps being newly diagnosed with cancer? In my humble opinion I think the audition went well. As I'm not quite sure where they are coming from or where they are going, I'm not sure if they will want to use my story as a Stage I with no chemo.
I did try to pry a little and was told that the commercial will not be selling anything and it's purpose is to raise awareness. I told them all of us at OCF will be grateful for that. I did get a plug in for Brian and the OCF, which I was happy that I was able to do.
I will be awiting an email of phone call and will post when I hear something.
Good luck to all of the others that went today and will be going tomorrow and/or sending in videos.

I got the same impression, not quite sure what they were looking for. I hope mine was ok. The people there were very nice. To me, the director (I think thats who he was, the guy asking the questions) seemed very compassionate. I had a parking ticket waiting for me when I came out. Can you believe $115? Best part is that I had paid to get a parking stub and it was displayed. My stub was good from 1:45 til 2:45 and the ticket was written at 2:05 and said I didnt have the parking stub. I think the out of state license plates made my car a target. Im planning on fighting the ticket. I also got the OCF plug in. Arrived at 10:30 and was out at 12:15. I was number 6 and there were 4 more behind me. None were from OCF. The one lady is the head the SPOHNC group that meets at Penn Tower. She and several others were from HUP and had my same surgeon. No one had heard of the OCF web site so I gave them the info. Dumb me forgot to take the OCF cards with me. Interview was more of a monologue and lasted about 10-15 minutes. I have no clue as to how I did or what they are looking for other than what is posted on board but I did get my pitch in for OCF and Brian. Hopefully they will take some of us from the forum.

I was also at Philly today - got there around 12:30 so I must have just missed you. I was given #12 when I got there, but when I went if for the audition, they switched me to #11. When I left there were about 5 people waiting.
My interview experience was the same as yours, and I also managed to pitch OCF.

Re-reading it and especially that one line, makes me think that perhaps there is still a chance, however, it could be a very diplomatic way of sending a rejection. My reasoning is why would they contact us at all right now. Why not wait until the final decisions have been made?

Or, maybe Terry hasn't gotten around to writing them all yet.

Of course, if anyone receives a first email that says they're in, then that would pretty much clear up the confusion in the emails that we have received.

At least they have heard us and perhaps their final product will do some good in bringing greater awareness to some segment of the population. We don't even know what their purpose is/was in making this film. I do believe that they owe us some explanation or at least information about what they plan to do with the information that we provided. We shared openly with them with a certain expectation, and with not a little effort on the part of each person who participated.
Bravo for our OCF family to be so committed to helping others avoid this disease that we would come out in large numbers for this project. Whether or not it is ever completed is out of our control, but in some way we've helped. Maybe one of the interviewers learned something from one of us that will help him/her recognize a problem. That would be worth all the effort.

If they want to use it and hire and actor to say it, I would expect compensation for that as much as if they'd paid me to appear in an ad. When I left Philly around noon, there had already had 10 other survivors that had never even heard of OCF. I think Sue and I were the only two OCF members that auditioned in Philly. Most of us got a lovely rejection letter thanking us for our time. I don't think we should be hassling the agency for more info. They probably had no say in who got picked.

We hope to have our selections made by this Friday. If you are selected, Caroline Sinclair Casting will be back in touch with you to make the necessary arrangements and such. In the meantime, thank you for your continued interest in our project. I forgot to mention previously that we are still moving forward with the production. The taping has been pushed back a couple of weeks though.

I guess that there is still a chance that someone from the OCF may still be in the commercial. Since the taping was rescheduled once and the decision making was postponed also, they may just do it again.
