To all
I chose this site to add something for anyone dealing with this horrendous disease. Mostly for Brian's effort to bring us all together. You all have been my support system and info source since my husband diagnosis in Nov. Brian left a post on activism which I had to reply to. Brian, your work for this site has been amazing. How anyone can go through this disease and come out with such a helping attitude amazes me. My thanks is not near enough for what you've done. We all have moments of disagreeing, that's what makes us alive.
Please don't stop what your doing . It helps us all have hope.
Diane

Folks,

Something happened this evening that I have to share. Those of you who have been regular here know I have three boys 16, 12, and 7. Tonight we were working on the garden when the two older boys found two baby birds on the ground. These birds were obviously too young to be out of the nest and were too small to attempt feeding ourselves. The youngest son came upon the scene and obviously was troubled by the delemma. I rather matter-of-factly explained to all of them that the mother bird was the only one who could help them. We made up a nest and set the two birds in it then placed it where I hoped no cat would find.

The whole event was out of my mind until at dusk (while we were still working on the garden) the youngest boy came around the corner and when he looked up, saw the first evening star. He immediately and mostly silently started to make a wish...almost as a prayer for those birds to be given a second chance.

I don't think he knew I could hear him and I am very glad he didn't see me. You know I was in tears...I imagined how many stars he had been wishing on for me, his dad, over the last two + years...for all I know that is why I am still here.

I hope the mommy bird comes back tommorrow....I do not know what I will tell him if she dosen't

What I can still do....cry

Now you did it Mark...you got everyone crying with that beautiful, touching story! Ditto to what Amy said....he sounds like a sweet little boy! Did the mommy-bird ever come back? And while you're buying Amy a tube of mascara - might as well pick one up for me too! Thanks again for sharing....that was lovely.

Mark,

I wish there were more people of any age in this world like your 7 year old. Think what a wonderful man he'll grow to be (maybe like his Dad?)

Thanks for sharing,
Dinah

Thank you all for your kind and heartfelt words! I have had several things worthy of posting since the Bird incident. First I have been on a short vacation near the Canadian border in Canoe country with my family.

Second on Thursday last I had a checkup with the ENT and he thinks I am doing fine, it's 28 months now!

Last (for now) Mommy bird did not come back. One of the two birds died, we think because of injuries from the fall out of it's nest. confused

The GOOD news is the other baby bird is doing quite well eating $2.00 per day of worms. He/she has grown remarkably big in the last week and the boy's have adopted him/her with the name Charley. smile
