Joined: Feb 2013 Posts: 78 | I had an enlarged tonsil that was not symmetric. I had no pain or discomfort in any way. The sign that prompted a doctor visit was a swolen neck lymph node.

Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 49 | A swollen lymph node was our first clue. No pain. And the GP waved it off as treatable with antibiotics. Even the ENT after scoping Richard's throat, did not see any issues, at first. It was not till after the PET/CAT, that we knew for sure that Richard had cancer. This took about a month.
65 yr old male in great health other than C. 5/1/13 lump discovered, 5/15 Biopsy, 5/29 PET/CAT, Diag: SCC HPV+ rt tonsil, 1 node, Stage III T1-2 N1, 6/10 PEG, 06/17 Chemo, 6/24 Radiation, 7/6 100% PEG, 8/14 Done with treatment, 11/6 follow-up PET, 11/8 NED, 11/13 PEG removed!

Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 421 Likes: 1 | Even though my cancer was an unknown primary, I had a slight light up on my right tonsil on the PET scan. Removal and biopsy proved negative. No pain, no issues swallowing. Just a painless swollen lymph node.

Joined: Apr 2013 Posts: 92 | My symptoms were swollen 1 lymph node on the right side that they tried to treat w antibiotics twice, and jaw and ear pain which was diagnosed as TMJ and I was told to wear a mouth guard at night. I had 3 doctors and 2 ENTs look in my throat and none of them noticed anything except one doctor said my throat was "a little red". The pain was not constant, it was an ache when I had it. Also I was having taste bud issues for months, sometimes I could not taste things.
AGE 38 10-2012 thru 3-2012 swollen lymph node,painful jaw and ear,2 antibiotics,X-ray,CAT scan,needle biopsy,scope, no answers
3-4-13 tonsillectomy and selective neck dissection, DX R tonsil SCC,METS to 1 lymph node,BOT,HPV+, stage IV
TX 35 RAD,3 chemo cisplatin/Taxol started 4-8-13
