I had no pain or discomfort in any way. The sign that prompted a doctor visit was a swolen neck lymph node.

And the GP waved it off as treatable with antibiotics. Even the ENT after scoping Richard's throat, did not see any issues, at first. It was not till after the PET/CAT, that we knew for sure that Richard had cancer. This took about a month.
65 yr old male in great health other than C. 5/1/13 lump discovered, 5/15 Biopsy, 5/29 PET/CAT, Diag: SCC HPV+ rt tonsil, 1 node, Stage III T1-2 N1, 6/10 PEG, 06/17 Chemo, 6/24 Radiation, 7/6 100% PEG, 8/14 Done with treatment, 11/6 follow-up PET, 11/8 NED, 11/13 PEG removed!

Removal and biopsy proved negative. No pain, no issues swallowing. Just a painless swollen lymph node.

I had 3 doctors and 2 ENTs look in my throat and none of them noticed anything except one doctor said my throat was "a little red". The pain was not constant, it was an ache when I had it. Also I was having taste bud issues for months, sometimes I could not taste things.
