I have had on and off ear pain. I am 21 years old. Male. Smoked cigs for a year. Then switched to cope/grizzly smokeless. Then swedish snus. Have quit all of that. No tobacco for about 2-3 weeks. Have had the sores for over a month. Also occasionally getting sores in throat that go away then come back. The sores in mouth been there and not healed. Also have HPV unsure which strain. But gen warts outbreaks occasionally. So has anyone had red sores then test positive for oral cancer? I have set up appointment with dentist for this week. Please let me know if red sores are known to be cancerous or more likely something else. | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 6 Member | OP Member Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 6 | Also my left throat gland suddenly got tiny almost nonexistent compared to my right gland. Now it is starting to come back but barely. The sores are painless under tongue. The sores in throat start off painless then become painful then go away. Then come back. All the sores are red and feel hard like warts but in my mouth. | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | A dentist is not always able to identify serious mouth conditions. They also do not always do biopsies and usually focus only on the teeth.
Any sore a person has in their mouth for 2 or 3 weeks which does not heel need to be checked by a professional. By the term professional, I am referring to an ENT who deals with oral cancer patients. They will be able to identify whats going on and if necessary biopsy it to give you an answer.
Congrats on giving up tobacco! Please let this be your wake up call to quit for good. Everyone always thinks "it cant happen to me, its always the other guy". Well, Im here to let you know I thought like that too and now I am disfigured as I am missing half of my lower jaw from oral cancer 3 times caused by smoking. All long term tobacco users eventually will develop serious medical conditions due to their tobacco addiction.
I hope whats going on in your mouth isnt anything serious! Best wishes!!! There are a few ENT's in my area. I will call them in a morning. Yes the quiting was very easy with snus vs's the other two. Very surprising actually. No cravings at all unlike when i first quit the cigs. But also and this is embarrassing. I quit this aswell. I used to smoke that herbal incense stuff, that was all over the news..around a year and a half ago. Been sober now for around 16 or so months. So i have no idea what that stuff could have done...I hope its not from that. I also read shortly after quitting tobacc that sores sometimes come up when the ph in the mouth is trying to restore itself. I remember doing a urine ph test and it was at a 5.2. So that could have someting to do with it.... | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 Senior Patient Advocate Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Senior Patient Advocate Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | Do see an ENT and let's see what they say. Congrats on the tobacco free lifestyle!

Even though you guit smoking, which was the best thing you did, you risk is still there from changes in the eliphical cells, and takes time to go back to normal. Erythroplakia, a red smooth, velvity, surface level lesion, has a high propensity to transform to cancer, and is presenting in about 40% of them, but it can be something else. As mentioned, your best bet is to see an ENT. Good luck.

I haven't had heart burn in at least 2 months. So do you think that makes sense?
