I would upload it for you bit I am in the ER waiting room for radiation induced seizures Basically it is mostly hype that proton is better for head, neck or oral cancer, since the very nature of proton therapy is that it stops exactly where it hits and may miss the remaining small cells of oral cancer. The article explains it is a money and prestige thing. My CCC as well as John Hopkins are both awaiting DC board approval to build proton therapy centers in DC. There are only 11 places in the US that have it. The mayo clinic is addinge one too to keep up with its status. April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

I don't have much to add to Proton treatment. I know of someone going through it now, in NJ, at ProCure, I believe, who have several locations in the U.S.

It is the second proton therapy center in California and more sophisticated than the Loma Linda facility located 100 miles north of us.
It will be use in the treatment of some Head & Neck cancers and by what I have heard so far is getting an excited welcome as another tool.
It has a spot scanning modulated pencil beam system that should be able to fully emulate IMRT or SBRT with little entry or exit dose damage.

Like I said, don't know if one is better than the other, but I looked at what it was while I was there.
