Pick a good hospital and good drs. They should also scan you to see if it has spread to your neck (lymphnodes) jaw and other parts. Best of luck

If it was confirmed by biopsy to be cancerous, it is, and the only way to confirm it. Most Head and Neck cancer are Squamous Cell Carcinoma, but there are other less common forms. I second what Cheryld recommended to have further testing, and hopefully is it's not extensive. Good luck with everything.

So sorry you have gotten diagnosed with oral cancer in your gums. If you are using tobacco or betel nuts please stop immediately as you do not want to further irritate your mouth.
As Cheryl stated, treatment can include surgery or radiation with or without chemo. You may even be treated with only radiation with or without chemo. Best thing to do is to find a large facility where they treat many oral cancer patients so have the most experience with successful outcomes. A second opinion at another large cancer center is also a good plan. You need to look for places where they use a team based approach.
At this time, try to eat as much as possible and dont worry about gaining weight. You probably will lose some during whatever treatment you have. Your sense of eating and swallowing may also be compromised for a few weeks or months from treatments.
Line up friends and relatives to help you during your treatment. Anyone who offers to help you, tell them when the time comes you will let them know what they can do. Make sure to write down their contact info so you or someone else can call them when the time comes.
Get a full blood count including thyroid. Many of us who have gone thru radiation have thyroid issues down the road. A full blood test now will ensure you have a baseline for all the counts in case you have issues down the road.
Go see a dentist and get any questionable teeth pulled. You may need a flouride tray if getting radiation treatments. Just get the ball rolling by getting a good dental check up now.
Feel free to ask questions and we will help you as much as possible with info and support. Good luck!!! You need to seek out the best care you can obtain. As I have not a clue what the standard level of care is in India, how widespread good care is accessible and affordable, you will need to do that research on your end.
What makes sense to be here on this board is to get a complete understanding of the standard level of care for specific oral cancers. If you can provide the specific diagnosis like many have attached to their signature then we can help a lot more.
Some, maybe many of the things we discuss here are common while they may be unusual or even non-existent in your area or country or affordable and accessible. So be cautious about expecting all we discuss here as it is likely different in your country but you can surely use what is mentioned here to post questions to your health providers to probe and gain some sense of how the two systems compare with respect to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
good luck, don

It might be helpful for you to read their posts or even pm them to find out what their experiences have been. Having said that, I am not sure how you can do this search.
Sorry you have to come on this journey, nevertheless, welcome and good luck.

You have not mentioned where in India. Assuming you are in Delhi, you can go for RGCI or Dharmshila Cancer Hospital which are good for comprehensive cancer care. Father; 67 yrs; RIP: 2012/05/26
