With 50% of my tongue being gone, I'm obviously moving food around when I chew differently than before. Anyone else have orthodontic issues after partial glossectomy?

Maybe someone here can better help, and see your doctor, which seems in line to do with any oral changes, and suspicions, especially after cancer. Good luck.

My gums are in good shape, but my dentist keeps patching the teeth themselves. So far, I haven't lost any, yet. I also had a partial glossectomy, but I'm sure that it is the radiation that has done the damage.

I had 2 lower molars pulled before radiation (one on either side). Then my dental fluoride trays were fitted, fitted, fitted and fitted. 3 times after the rads. (Long story) Whenever I wore them, my bite was uncomfortable after. So I stopped wearing the trays and brushed with fluoride 2 times a day instead.
Then 2 of my front teeth moved - one back and one forward. The dental clinic told me that although brushing was fine, the trays act as a retainer, so I had to choose between my front teeth moving and being able to eat comfortably.
They said it was a result of the extractions combined with radiation.
It can all be fixed by a Prosthodontist, I just have to win the lottery first!

I didn't have radiation or have any teeth extracted. I've had xrays at my dentist appointment and nothing shows in my gums.

If you did not have any teeth extracted or rads, then I don't know. Sorry about that - but let us know what if it was related to a partial glossectomy. I would sure like to know if anything shifts around because of that.

My operation was in May 2010 and I noticed that my teeth were moving in the November thereafter. They moved fast, my middle lower jaw teeth overlapped badly and an old extraction on the right handside closed. My op was done in the Uk and I returned to South Africa a month later. The ENT man was puzzled, I was sent to a Orthodontist who wired my front teeth to stop the shift. He said the moving teeth was caused because of the change in size of my tongue. I battle with my jaw being out of alignment as my upper and lower jaws don't rest together on my teeth. It's causing problems with sleeping, eating, digestion and is tiring. The ENT said that the reason for the jaw pulling out of alignment was because of tissue shrinkage. I am very hollowed out on the left where the lymph glands were removed.
I am sorry that I haven't more more of a solution for you but I will follow this thread and report back if I find anything helpful.
