This is my first full day at at and I feel some moments are better than others. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with medication management, feeds, and IV hydration ever other day. I have Dan's help to keep my head on straight and for encouragement.
I still don't feel up to much computer time, but I will keep you all posted as best as I can.
Thank you for all of your cheer-leading and support through this hard time. It was Dan who told me as I was hobbling through the the kitchen remarking of how weak and tired I feel..."remember, they told you recovery takes weeks and months, not days to get back."
I really am a lucky girl!

37 y/o fem at Dx (23 wks preg @ dx on 3/16/11)
SCC L oral tongue (no risk factors)
L partial gloss/MND 3/28/11 @ 25 wks preg
T1-2N0M0; no rads/chemo
Tonsillectomy on 8/6/12 +SCC L tonsil T2-3N1M0 (HPV-)
Treated with 35 rads/7 carbo & taxol (Rx ended 10/31/12), but many hospitalizations d/t complications from rx.
Various scans since rx ended are NED!
Part of genetic study for rare cancers @ MGH.
44 years old now...I wasn't sure I would make it! Hoping for 40 more!

Female, nonsmoker, 70, diag. 5/09 after tongue biopsy: stage IV. Left hemi-gloss. and left selec. neck disec. 30 lymph nodes removed May 20. Over 7 weeks daily rads. with three chemo. PEG removed 12/4/09 Am eating mostly soft foods. Back to work 11/09 Retired 4/1/11. 7 clear scans! Port out 9/11. 2/13. It's back: base of tongue, very invasive
surgery involving lifestyle changes. 2/14: Now speaking w/Passey-Muir valve. Considering a swallow study. Grateful to be alive.

Seems like the first couple weeks after finishing are the worst and then one day you wake up and you dont feel quite so bad. It will be 2 steps forward and 1 step back for a while but soon you will be feeling a little better.
Hang in there!!!! You really will feel better soon.

Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs.
