hello, my father had his 6month appt today.. in the last week or so his right eye has been bothering him and it got very red, his right cheek has also been swollen but has gone down some.. our biggest concern was him having this "stye" not knowing that this could A: be infection or B: that word we all hate! ENT doesnt seem to be too concerned but hey you just never know.. he said it could be cancer at the base of the skull.. im baffled.. so over the next few days i can only pray even harder that we see some good results from this antibiotic.. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. thank so much!
xoxo

Nicki...your ENT is a dick. My issue with most medical professionals is that they don't think before they open their over educated pie holes. You would think a sensitivity course would be required before letting them talk to patients.

It could be a number of conditions, stye, allergies, occular cellulitis etc...of course we as patients and caregivers will automatically jump to cancer. It's difficult , I know, but don't let the mind and emotions take over and just take it one step at a time

I had my whole side of my face balloon due to occular cellulitis and had to go to iv antibiotics for a week and that happened twice.

Keep your chin up

Eric

I totally agree with Eric, Nicki. Please smack that ENT next time you see him. I initially had one who made me feel like I was bothering him when I had things that were bothering/scaring me, so I dumped him and found another who cannot do enough for me. I pray things turn out good for you.

yes i totally agree with the both of you! now my dad is even more depressed.. well if he wasnt before he sure the hell is now! i was a bit thrown back by the ENT...the thing is too is that i called him myself and spoke with him about 4days before my dad's actual visit and told him about the eye, and he said, well it doesnt sound like cancer because cancer wouldnt act in that mannter.. huh? ok now all the suddent it could be? with all that has been done with my dad tx and salvage surgery, is it too late to switch doctors?

Hmmm...he does sound awful - have the CT done if it comes back clear - switch Drs. I can't remember if your dad is being treated at a cancer hospital
- if he is ask for someone else on staff if not - try to get into see an ENT there.

Good luck and hugs - you need it after this guy being such a meanie!

hi, he is being treated at Rush University Medical Center here in Chicago. He has us scared to death and now constantly staring at my dad's eye checking to see if this redness is gone or not. Im not too happy at this point. Would it be too late to switch doctors?

Wait until after the CT get the results if all is good then see someone else -you don't want to be in the position of needing surgery and no haven a dr.

Good luck!!

Nicki, do not get intimidated by this doctor! After all you are paying his salary so he works for you. If you are worried about your father's eye ask the nurse or the doctor.

In the US changing to another doctor within the same facility isnt so easy. Most doctors will not want to jump in the middle of a patients treatment especially within the same location. Is this a cancer center where he is being treated at?
