What a great post, Jerry! She is one amazing lady. And, Travis is one super individual as well. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I'm glad you got to see her, I am sure that made her day!!

Dx 5/18/07 SCC, BOT, lymph node involvement. T1N2BM0. (Stage 4a, G2/3)
Tx 6/18 - 8/3/07, IMRT x 33 Cisplatin x3 (stopped after 1st dose due to hearing issues). Weekly Erbitux started 6/27/07 completed 8/6/07.

Jerry..that is great you got to see her!! I thought she couldn't have visitors but it sounds like you just have to get there at the right time. She is such a great lady...I'm thrilled to hear the good news.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.

1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

38 yo@dx, female, non-smoker, non-drinker, SCC right lateral tongue. T2N2aMx stage IVa; 1/20/09 bilateral neck dissection, hemiglossectomy, micromets in 2 right nodes, left all clear. 33xIMRT + 3 cisplatins. Tx completed 5/08/09. PET scan 7/29/09 clear, 5/26/10 clear, chest x-ray 5/23/11 clear

I'm really not sure how she will manage, but I do rememebr that she pretty much handled things on her own the last 2 times. Of course, this time, the treatment was much more involved than before.

With Travis going into the Marines next month, I am concerned.

Since she took an apartment that is closer to the hospital than her house, travel for follow-up will be easier.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

I would bet that Travis has already checked into someone checking on Christine for when he leaves for the Marines.He is too good of a son to overlook that.


Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

I just knew you had it covered Travis.. You are only one of thousands of military people, but just seeing howdependable you are with your mom makes me feel safer in our country.

Sounds like you've got everything under control, Travis. Good job!!! Thanks to Margaret for the link so I could send Christine a card - that was great. Glad to hear she is doing so well and continue to send positive thoughts and prayers her way.


CG/Mom: 5 1/2 years SCC upper palate,4 recurrences, surgeries, chemo & radiation. Mom went to Heaven 1/21/11.
