Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | I have a pain area on my gum when I brush. It is on the left side on the back part. Hard to describe where it is. It has been there a few days. It just showed up, there was not warning at all. When I look at it, I do not see anything, but it sure is painful. I have also noticed it is getting more painful to eat on that side as well. My next appt. with the ENT is not until Sept. 8 or 9th. Should I wait that long if this thing does not change or gets worse. SHould I try to get in sooner.

Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 716 | It doesn't hurt to try to get in earlier then your scheduled time...I did it a few times with my RO and ENT, they were both great and everything turned out fine.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | Call them, I called both of mine and they took me in within 3 days. I had the same pain just like yours and it started the same way. For me it is exposed bone on my gums. The Drs seem to think the hyperbaric oxygen will take care of it. The oxygen is supposed to grow new blood vessels in you system.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

There are a whole host of things that can be causing you pain in that area. I would recommend getting in to see your dentist on Monday and relieve the stress of wondering. It could simply be an abrasion or some root exposure. Probably nothing serious at all.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

Not so painful to brush my teeth, but I do not know if I will ever get over the anxiety of having a sore in my mouth. I thought it was going to get easier, but it hasn't. Not yet anyway.

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,357 Likes: 5 | I feel exactly the same. Every time I get a new sore/sore area in my mouth, it seems to absorb a great deal of my attention. Sometimes I wonder if I make it worse by sticking my finger in my mouth incessantly. I have a new sore area on my tongue and I have an appointment on the 31st so until then I am trying very hard to just stay calm. For me, I try to "Let Go and Let God". That isn't easy to do but I think cancer teaches us that we are not the ones in control! We just do our best.
So glad I am not alone in my anxieties - now I just hope that you and I are normal!

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I would say the 2 of you are abnormally normal. . I have yet to touch the bare bone on my jaw and have hardly ever even looked at my tongue. I would just like to think nothing is wrong and let the Drs do it.
