Patient Advocate (1000+ posts) Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 1,627 | I would be interested to hear if John Hopkins is not doing XRT radiation any longer, or conventional as it is sometimes called. That would seem like a huge step for any hopital to take. Are there any studies done yet showing the success of IMRT, long term?? It sounds like the choice of treatment if it shares the success rate of conventional. Possibly IMRT is being paired up with conventional?? A weaker, less damaging dose, is being given to surrounding areas?? There has to be a reason why any doctor would say that IMRT can be used on any HNC, at least a doc at a top 50 place. Any thoughts?
SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.
