Today' Washington post has a front page story on proton therapy . I would upload it for you bit I am in the ER waiting room for radiation induced seizures
Basically it is mostly hype that proton is better for head, neck or oral cancer, since the very nature of proton therapy is that it stops exactly where it hits and may miss the remaining small cells of oral cancer. The article explains it is a money and prestige thing. My CCC as well as John Hopkins are both awaiting DC board approval to build proton therapy centers in DC. There are only 11 places in the US that have it.
The mayo clinic is addinge one too to keep up with its status.
