Now that i have been at OCF for about a month I'm getting started on the newsletter!!!! We have some ideas about what we want to write about but i want to know if there is anything specific that people would like to read or learn more about.
Let me know what your ideas are and i will see about getting them into print. Have a great day and i hope to hear back some great ideas.

I'd like to see information on current research and studies, obviously, but also information on the day-to-day stuff that we talk about here. Things like recommended foods when eating is tough, tips for managing PEG tubes, trachs and whatever else the docs throw at us. And a few 'feel good' stories about survivors would be great. I also think some stories about caregivers and what they go through, coping tips and that sort of thing would be great.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head...

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 475 | I am along with Susan, listing all the oc walks would be great even though they will be listed on the current ocf events page, listing them in a newletter would ensure people would see them. Having oc survivors attend these walks is so inspiring to all who attend, it gives hope to others and they also represent OCF in such a good way.
And like she said, an ongoing "help wanted" for volunteers. That would be great.
Also a section on people who make a difference in the world of oral cancer. People who really are making strides in this fight. Highlighting their efforts would be inspiring as well.
Just some thoughts . . . .

CG to Father, 75 yo with SCC of the mouth; upper maxillectomy and neck diss. performed on 5/23/07. Father also suffered heart attack during surgery and now has CHF. RT complete on 8/28/07. Cancer back 11/27/07. RT and Chemo to start on 12/17. Cancer back 6/17/08. Finally at rest 08/08/08.

With all this to choose from, we will have to have some of these alternate from month to month, as it could become a full on magazine not a newsletter in short order. Submissions (after approval of an idea) of things written by some of you would also be interesting.
