She had about 10% of her tongue removed with clean margins with no other tx. She will be 91 this coming March. She smoked only one cigarette in her life at the age of 17 and doesn't drink alcohol. Nanny religiously takes her vitamins and goes to Church. She'll be an eleven year survivor with no recurrences or complications in 2009.

One that smoked her corn cob lived to be 96 and the one that didn't made 108. I'm going for the family record. LOL Neither were ever sick either. I think all of the bad things were saved for me so I could take the punishment for them, I can handle it. I was just old enough to remember them pretty good.I have one of their hearing aids. It's like a sweeper hose with an earpiece and a small megaphone looking mouth piece where you speak. The hose is about 3 ft long.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. My husband came home from hospital today after total glossectomy with flap replacement and jaw bone removed with no replacement to make swallowing easier. The doctor said all margins clear. He will not have rad since this is his second bout and he had the max rad 6 years ago. My hope is that he will be well and live to 106. Next step will be to remove trach and n/g tube after swallow eval and get him talking. I would love to hear success stories. Happy New Year. elem | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | Ray,
