Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,357 Likes: 5 | About 3 weeks ago I discovered yet another lump. This one was in the center of my neck and I immediately went to the doctor who arranged a needle biopsy and a cat scan. On Dec 3rd I found out that both of those were clear - no evidence of disease.
But, after 5 years and several false negative biopsies, my surgeon knows I will rest better if a better excision of the lump was done so he did that today.
Surgeon found evidence that it was what he expected - a suture granuloma. A piece of suture which my body has rejected and was building a wall around. He even found the piece of suture which was likely causing the problem. They will still send the tissue to the lab for testing but I do feel more assured - for now!
Imagine sutures still being rejected after a year?? Isn't that odd?? The irony of it of course is that I now have new sutures for my body to spit out!

Well, Glad to hear it was not a recurrence. Sorry to hear a few of the sutures were still there. I am sure this must happen more than what we know. Good thing you mentioned it here. It might help someone else along the way.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
