They said that they hoped to film around Dec. 2, which isn't very far away for people to plan for their newfound stardom...gotta get the hair colored and the limo hired!!

Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 531 | Well I must be slow...and did mine last night. It was the first chance that my friend with a camera had available. it will be mailed on mon or tue I am hoping I don't miss it but I wouldn't be surprised if they got it after the fact.
I couldn't believe it was the first time I have talked about my surgery and stuff since it happened...Wow it seems so foggy like it never even happened although I still have the fallout and know it happened...It all seems like a bad dream. I had a hard time and broke down a few times I know my friend will be able to edit it really well. I just didn't really think about how it would it would effect me just talking about it. Could hardly finish...Only ended up with about 4 minutes in total...This is amazing cause I usually hide from the camera at all costs but I believe in this cause enough to be on camera.. So even if they don't get in time for the project it was good for me!!!

I know exactly what you mean! My surgery, which was May 19, feels like it was a whole lifetime ago. And within weeks of finishing radiation and chemo, it was fast becoming a distant memory as well. I think the brain does what it needs to do to protect itself from the really bad stuff that happens to us.
I really enjoyed (if that's the right word) talking to complete strangers about my illness and treatment - totally different from talking to family or to my medical team. These were people that have absolutely no investment in me whatsoever, and I was trying really hard to get a "read" on how they were responding to me... sort of a dry run, I guess, for how the rest of my life might go, ya know? (I don't know if any of that makes sense, I'm just thinking out loud here.)

Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | With the shoot planned for a little more than 2 weeks away, it would seem that they would have to let people know this week or early next week. They did ask if there would be any problem being available on 12/2, so that date seems pretty firm.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I was told just don't be too late mailing the DVD and pic in. I think my guardian angels erased most of the memories I might have had of the surgeries and the preceding months and a few of the weeks following the implants and the prior months for them too.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

I think our guardian angels are related Jim cause I can't remember most either..that has been the big topic lately is not remembering the after math of the surgery...Not sure how it is possible to function and not remember...

Because when I look back at everything as a whole, I really don't remember it being so bad! Of course I can think back to some times when I was miserable, but those really don't pop into my head right off. Weird!
Stephanie, 23, SCC on the right side of my tongue, surgery on 5-19-08, over half my tongue removed, free flap constructed from my forearm, bilateral neck dissection, one positive node. Radiation (32) and chemo (carboplatin) started on 6-16-08. Recurrence 4/09 in lungs.

Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 531 | Stephanie I have two children and couldn't tell you if your theory is right cause I had cesarians but I think you are right...anyway I was told a couple of things one of which is it is your body's natural defense to block out painful experiences the other I am not too sure of it to post...something about severe surgery and meds to cause amnesia
