Has anyone heard of the Beth Israel Center in NYC as one of the leading practices for HN & Thyroid Cancer and rehabilitation? In my search looking for a specialist to help my Mom regain her ability to eat again I was reffered to a Doctor/Chief at this center who seems to be extremely versed and experienced in this type of cancer as well as helping in corrective procedures for post tx dyphagia. My Mom will hopefully be seen by him in the next few months. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of the center and their prominence in the HN cancer field. I have been on this board for over a year and have not seen any posts on this center.

Hi Tami,

We just recently heard about Beth Israel being very good in the area of Head & Neck Cancers and their related problems. My Aunt found out that she was experiencing a recurrence in July and was too scared/depressed/angry to do anything about it. A radiation oncologist out on the far east end of Long Island has referred her to a Dr. Louis Harrison at Beth Israel. I'm not promoting Dr. Harrison. We don't even know him yet. The facility came very highly recommended and for some reason (I'm not asking), she has agreed to go. She sees him for the first time tomorrow. His interest is in organ preservation and function. We'll let you know what happens.

Carol,

Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Bob went to Beth Israel yesterday and the experience wasn't good. They are not going back. They are waiting for an appointment with a head and neck oncologist at the Monter Cancer Center, part of North Shore University Hospital here on Long Island. Frankly, it's the very best we have here on the Island. My Mom is an 11 yr. breast cancer survivor because of them. I'm hoping they can get Aunt Ro in early next week. I'll keep you posted.

Hugs,
Lisa

P.S. Please pray for Aunt Ro. The months of doing nothing are going to cost her dearly.
