Hi Everyone,

I can't believe it has been 8 months since Mary finished her chemo and radiation-time flies. She is doing really well, eating is still slow but she is working on it. Over the past several weeks she has noticed that she is bruising fairly easily, sometimes with no known injury. Some of these bruises are fairly large, especially on her legs. She has started exercising (step aerobics) again on a regular basis. She is seeing the docs in Boston next week and plans on discussing it with them, but I was just curious if anyone else encountered this such a long time after their treatment ended?
Anemia or low platelets cross my mind, but she is not fatigued.

I stressed that it is important for her to mention this next week. Hopefully it is nothing.

Liz

Hi Liz

I am not sure on the larger bruising my daughter easily bruises and since my surgery I am diabetic and it seems everywhere I have injected myself I bruised. My nurses commented that it could be related to taking meds for swelling anything that makes the blood flow faster and not being a doctor...if she is starting up aerobics could cause the muscles which haven't been used for a long time to bruise by themselves. This however is just my observation and opinion and I concur that it should be discussed with her doctor...

Hi Liz:

Bruising is something I thought was a 'just me' type thing. I have awful purple bruises all over my legs and have no idea what caused them. It really could have soemthing to do with the blood levels. I do know it can take a very very long time for those to get back to normal numbers. At my 1 year mark, I still wasnt even close to where I had been pre-cancer. Im sure there are medical reasons why some people bruise more easily than others.

Aspirin causes me to bruise. For some reason a couple years ago my PCP put me on a baby aspirin a day and I was always bruised.

Once I got cancer they stopped the baby aspirin and now I have no bruises.

I preferred it the other way (aspirin bruises and no cancer)!
