It seems my excitement of having the tube out has been slightly overshadowed yesterday and today because I'm dealing with nausea for some reason. It's not bad, just annoying more than anything. Yesterday morning I woke up very excited to take the bandage off my peg tube site so I could take a picture of the hole but it was ALREADY CLOSED! In less than 24 hours! I was so disappointed! Oh well, hopefully I'll get a handle on this nausea and I can truly enjoy being tube-less!
Stephanie, 23, SCC on the right side of my tongue, surgery on 5-19-08, over half my tongue removed, free flap constructed from my forearm, bilateral neck dissection, one positive node. Radiation (32) and chemo (carboplatin) started on 6-16-08. Recurrence 4/09 in lungs.

Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,128 | Har! I wish my tracheotomy hole had sealed up that fast! Everyone said it would, and my first PEG hole did, but this time it held on forever and I had to keep cleaning it (and covering it with finger to talk!).

Joined: May 2008 Posts: 551 | Urk. That stinks, Stephanie. I'm dealing with a vaguely upset stomach as well, when I eat by mouth. Last night I drank about half of a Carnation VHC, felt nauseous, and put the rest down the PEG with no problem. This doesn't make any sense, right?? Its very frustrating. But hang in there, kid! I'm sure this too shall pass.

Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,128 | Margaret, I'm having the reverse problem -- I get uncomfortable if with the PEG feeding, esp if I do it too fast (start to sweat and stomach aches) but I can drink stuf with no ill effects (I sure wish it tasted better!).

That stinks too! You've been having trouble with this all along, right? And I hear you about the taste - most food has no flavor at all or it tastes awful. I have been trying to get more food down, but its still a struggle, and I really want to get rid of this tube.
This "one day at a time" stuff is hard sometimes.

Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,128 | Actually, today I drank two cans of Nutren 2.0 back-to-back (pushing it, I know...) and almost immediately got the runs and tummy ache, but no sweats. I can usually drink one down fairly rapidly with no ill effects.
For me it isn't the PEG tube itself so much as losing the tube is a symbol of progress.
