It was put in by a radiologist so I have to go to the OR to have it removed. Not sure why, but whatever. I'm hoping it's just an in and out deal and they just pull it and let me get on with my day. I have to be there two hours before my appointment and I can't eat anything after midnight the night before (which is going to kill me! I usually wake up STARVING in the morning). Well, I'm going to be patiently waiting for Monday and hopefully the anticipation doesn't kill me in the mean time!
Stephanie, 23, SCC on the right side of my tongue, surgery on 5-19-08, over half my tongue removed, free flap constructed from my forearm, bilateral neck dissection, one positive node. Radiation (32) and chemo (carboplatin) started on 6-16-08. Recurrence 4/09 in lungs.

Bill . . . SCC - originated in right tonsil, drifted into neck ( 28 lymph nodes removed - one positive ). Radical neck dissection in September 07, completed 34 radiation tx on January 4, 2008. Used Peg. Non smoker, 61, good shape, no previous health issues. Second year PET scan - "all clear".

It was an important part to my speedy recovery that I gained valuable nutrition and hydration, but I hated sleeping on my back all the time and dealing with it while taking a shower. Great job!

First PEG was put in by Gastro Doc, second PEG by Radiologist.

Pete- I'm positive my peg has a balloon on the inside or else it would have fallen out a long time ago (my dogs like to jump, and it gets caught on everything). So I'm sure I'll be feeling the sting of removal but after all the other things I've had pulled out of my neck and done to my body in the past 4 months I'm sure this will be a breeze! I don't think I would be able to handle a peg tube that you can take out and put right back in, bleh. AND, I'm not sure what's up with the whole not being able to eat beforehand thing. It's going to be the death of me. It figures, I survive cancer and treatment, only to die of starvation waiting to have my feeding tube pulled.
Tom- like you I hate sleeping on my back, I sleep on my side for the most part, but I do occasionally like to sleep on my stomach. I'm looking forward to being able to not worry about rolling over on it!

I like that idea. Anyone else heard of this option? Or is this only a UK procedure? My MO said today getting rid of my peg was next on the agenda and I would rather poop it than pull it
