It was explained to me that there testing showed a slight increase in efficacy over the larger doses, and a decrease in morbidity. He said the efficacy increase was small, but certainly no less effective than the larger doses. Thus, the decrease in morbidity prompts them to use the weekly in most cases. I lost 70 lbs from my weight of 218. The blender at least has me stabilized at this weight. One day I hope to hear, Jim go get some dentures and start eating food again. LOL Oh yea!!

Week one done (4x rads, 1 x cisplatin). I am feeling pretty gimpy. Doing my best to stay ahead of nausea and dry mouth from the drugs. Thanks all for the advice.

Hang in there. I had cisplatin like that in 3 big doses, the doc actually took off the 3rd dose. For me, the end of week 2 was when reality really kicked in and I realized cancer was a fight. Try to always take the anti nasuea pills especially next week. I wish you strength in your battle. It can be done and you have a strong support system pulling for you. Keep your hydration and nutrition at optimal levels, not an easy task. Your wife is an angel and your best ally in this battle. I resorted to charting my Bill's feedings to make sure he was getting enough every day. Make sure you are swallowing something everyday even when it hurts like heck. I would put a small bottle of Gatorade Rain beside Bill everyday and that way I could monitor what he was getting down...he fussed BUT he was off the PEG within a week and 1/2 of ending treatment.
My thoughts are with you....stay strong.

I'm sure we've mentioned this before but please watch out for the "ringing" in the ears, which I wouldn't call it ringing more like a ever so slight not constant hum for me anyway with the Cisplatin. I maybe didn't recognize it soon enough and I am left with permanent high frequency hearing loss which, at my stage of recovery, I might rank it #1 in remaining adverse side effects.
