Martha has finally been approved for County assistance and we finally got to see her first oncologist but his field is OBGYN and he only volunteers Thurs afternoons. He ordered more tests and Martha was given her next appt of Aug 21. Still no treatment plan offered as these other tests are needed first as I knew from going on the internet the first day she was told she had IDC.
BTW, with any free assistance she will be offered, she is referred to all doctors and has no choice in their referrals what so ever. We spent 4 hours Thursday getting a MRI and there was only one person ahead of her.

I have been working Moffitt since the beginning and the last thing we needed was that damn referral letter which is near impossible to get. I mean it's like asking one doctor to admit he's not as qualified to treat you as the one he must refer you to and the County also fights it because it's precedent setting. I was told by the County one month ago by a big, mean, fullback like lady in charge that "we just don't allow out of network referrals unless we can't treat her locally AND WE CAN TREAT HER LOCALLY SO IT WON"T HAPPEN."
Martha will FINALLY see a breast surgeon from Moffitt Friday @10:30 and I hope they just take her butt directly into surgery. LOL Martha just doesn't understand how lucky she is.

You are a compasionate person and a great boss. Not many people would do what you have done to help someone to get the care that they need and deserve.
I hope that Martha gets into treatment real soon. She is not only lucky that you have accomplished this for her, but she is extremely lucky to have you on her side.

Late yesterday we were told that the Doctor they said COULD do the referral is not the one with that authority and the only one WITH that authority WORKS for the County. As I write I am waiting for the fax referral to come in as our appt with Moffitt is at 10:30 this am and we need to leave no later than 9:45 to make it.

These doctors and insurance companies should be so ashamed of the crap they put ill people through. I'm sure they all sleeo well at night though.

He spent nearly 2 1/2 hours non stop with us and we also spent time with his nurse. They also called in a Social Worker who spent about an hour one on one with Martha and a big box of tissues. In all we were there 5 hours. Killed my day but it had to be done. Her surgeon still needs to see the MRI CD, which Martha forgot to get but he's scheduling her surgery in less than 2 weeks. She now needs to decide on a Lumpectomy or a Mastectomy.
