Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 15 | This is my second post as I am new to the site. I am scheduled for a throat biopsy next week and I am very scared. I was not going to tell anyone that I had "suspicious hardening of the throat tissue", I did not want my family and friends to worry until I knew for sure what I was up against. But I told a few people who are close to me, my husband of course, my sisters and a few co-workers who have to cover for me when I'm out. And I had a good cry with my Husband over the weekend. I'm surprised how much better I feel, mayb its just sinking in, or maybe talking helps ... for now I am getting educated, by devouring the information on this site, and I am staying positive, by following your advice. You certainly can Preview Post (if you are doing the Quick Reply form, it's Preview Reply), which will allow you to read over what you have written and make corrections before you hit the Submit button. You can also Edit your post for several hours after it's added to the thread.

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

Joined: May 2007 Posts: 666 | First of all: not everything turns out to be cancer, sometimes you "just" have an infection. Hopefully your biopsy is negative as they often are!

Repeat the mantra of the OCF
It's not cancer until the biopsy says it is. Many times, they come back negative, but good for you and your doc for checking.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

I chose to share my cancer journey with as many people as I could. Of course, that was after I had a diagnosis and a surgery plan, but for me that all happened in a matter of days! I needed the support and the prayers of those who cared about me.....and of those who didn't know me as well. It was the right decision for me, and I still am bouyed by being asked how I am doing.
Maybe you won't have to share bad news with this group, but at least you showed your close group that you care enough about them and trust them and need them enough to share your deepest concerns with them.

The waiting part can be filled with anxiety. Thats probably the hardest part of this, not knowing if its cancer. It will take about a week after the biopsy to get your results. Please dont spend the next couple weeks worrying. That can make you feel sick and isnt productive. Its summer, the weather is nice try to enjoy it.
