My diet is limited still to softer things to eat like soup, pudding, and yogurt. I have just learned to eat bread with tons of butter on it. I have tried mac and cheese, but still dont do well with pasta. Oatmeal, cream of wheat and cereal dont work either. Does anyone have any high calorie ideas for soft foods? Its getting old drinking chocolate milk and eating soup, pudding, yogurt everyday.

How about a scrambled egg with some cheese melted in? My husband does well with this. His eating is severely limited also.

i got tired of eating the same old soft things too. now i've found that i can eat canned pinto beans and navy beans (great protein) if i add a little water to them while they are heating up. i am also able to eat about 1/2 portion of a lean cuisine salisbury steak dinner. the carrots in that go down real easy and so do the mashed potatoes if i have gravy on them. the salisbury steak is a little more difficult but if you cut it up in small pieces and cover it with gravy, then i goes down pretty easy too. the key is to take small bites and chew well. i can also eat bananas, canned peaches (the peaches are great with vanilla ice cream too!). oh, and just recently i started eating baked potatoes with lots of butter (i don't eat the skin though). although i am eating a wider variety of things, i don't think i am eating enough to sustain myself so i still drink several cans of ensure plus a day too. hope this helps.

How many of yall have pressure cookers? (I love mine)

Funny you mention the pressure cooker Kevin. My wife looked at me like I had 3 eyes not just the first time but about every time I take it out and cook with it. I grew up eating cheap tough meat that was miraculously tender and tasty because of that contraption. My wife still won't go in the kitchen when it is hissing and whistling, though!

You can cook a whole chicken in a few minutes and veggies literally in seconds. It keeps all the nutrients in and you can make everything as soft as you wish.

Along with my other foods I eat a desert called Magic Cup which is made by Hormel Health Labs. Here is a link to the product: http://www.hormelhealthlabs.com/products/supplemental/magic_cup/default.aspx
It has 290 calories per serving and 9 grams of protein plus vitamins. The only place I found to buy it was at a place called Gordon Food Services which is like a Sam's club without a membership www.gfs.com . Go to their web site and see if a store is near you, or call Hormel and see about getting it. I have go in and order them and they usually arive in two days. I let them thaw and eat them like pudding. I love the vanilla flavor. Hormel sells foods for people with swallowing problems. This is a high calorie food I ate along with the Carnation VHC drinks.

Tom:

Thanks for the info on Hormel products, unfortunately there arent any Gordon Food Services in my area. I was very impressed by what Hormel offers. Once I do better eating, i may try to order from them.

Kevin and Ed:

What a great idea using a pressure cooker is. My grandmother used one all the time when I was a child. Fresh vegatables would be much tastier cooked in there than having to eat canned.
Kevin, I would be interested in hearing what you make in the pressure cooker.

007:

Have you tried any other brand of frozen dinners? I am looking for the highest amount of calories per bite. I have a difficult time with meats. I forgot about canned peaches, they are good. I am going to try a baked potato too with tons of butter and sour cream. It seems all I eat anymore is soup, yogurt and pudding. Thanks for your ideas.
