I guess I will be the first to post here. I was proud of myself tonight and wanted to share with you a recipe that mom and I came up with even though it is probasbly old as the hills. Yeah its meatloaf.
I had ground chuck a package of lipton onion soup mix, a 1/3 cup of beef gravy from a can, two eggs, two slices stale bread crumbs, and 3/4 cup water mix well bake one hour at 350. when your about ten minutes ready to be done pour the rest of that can of gravy on it and spread it around. bake 10 more minutes. We had pasta and green beans mixed with carrots. It was "wet" enough to totally enjoy. Anymore "wet" ideas????

While your at it cook you some pasta and use the gravey that the meatloaf makes or some ragu alfreado sauce. I still can't eat potatoes really good so I kind of stopped trying. And I have found the delmonete sliced carrotts really sweet and "wet". I bought some mini rolls at winn dixie warm them up a tad and butter them with honey butter is so good. I have found that with the salty taste in my mouth that if I add sweet stuff in my food I can handle it better. Some one wrote in another statement that we all can use the extra calories and I so agree with that. I have lost too much weight and I know that when I go see the nutritionalist that she will have a fit about my weight and I am trying not to loose anymore weight but I keep loosing it anyway. Give it a try if you can. Its so good. Brenda

Hi there, ok now im like you i have given up on trying to eat potatoe it just is too thick and sticky for me even when i try to make it sloppy...but you say you can manage pasta with a sauce so im going to give it a try so far i havent been able to eat pasta either.

ooo honey butter sounds sooo good, im like you if i make things sweet they taste somewhat better i have a kind of metallic taste in my mouth so everything savoury tastes like metal.

isnt it funny i have been eating like a pig and i really mean that waffles and eggs and french toast all with syrup(gonna have to watch my colesteral(spelling sorry) so i thought id have put some weight on...nope i have lost another 3 lbs that makes me 48lbs loss so far luckily my nutritionalist doesnt care my Dr's nurses on the other hand are like pit bulls...LOL

thanks for the tips im going to try them...Debz

For those that can chew some- chicken thighs and legs [dark meat] are slippery and when cooked or combined with a gravy or sauce are pretty easy to swallow. They are also good in combination with pasta. Arborio rice, cooked as a risoto, is easy to swallow also. Amy

Fish is always good. I have it every day now because it is so easy to chew and very good for you. Tilapia, flounder, even catfish is delicious baked in butter or even fried in extra virgin olive oil.
Also, try mac and cheese. Potatoes seem like they should be easy, but they never are. They discouraged me so much until I learned there are much better things. After many months, I can eat baked potatoes with lots of butter.
Oatmeal is also a good thing to try with lots of butter and milk and a little honey. So good for you too.
Cream of chicken soups and tomato soups(if you do not have ulcers in your mouth) are also very nutritious.
My son,"the chef" made me crab bisque. I never thought of it, but now you can get bisque's in the grocery store and they are delicious.
I will keep looking, it seems I eat healthier now than ever before, even though I cannot chew well. So how can I complain?
Just the other day I tried crablegs and WOW! I did it.

PS-so glad to see this new forum-eating depressed me more than anything right after surgery. There were no recipe books readily available for non-chewers.
Thanks Brian-this will help so many people.
We will all eat again.

I have found red potatoes to be less grainy than the white or russet potatoes. I make mashed potatoes with lots of butter and use half and half instead of milk. If you blend them for a long time they are very creamy.

Debz,
Oh, I want your recipe for Shepherd's pie. When I was a young college student, there was a British Pub around the corner from school. I went in(when I had money) just for the shepherd's pie. Oh what a taste, and I have never been able to copy it. Can you share your British version.
Please do try tilapia. Also, corned beef is easy to chew. This sounds kind of funky, but I make a mean corned beef sandwish (can't bite off the bread) but dunk it into Tomato soup and I can then bite it off and feel like a normal person.HAHA
