#69009     01-31-2008 01:23 PM      |       Joined:  Sep 2007  Posts: 24    Member   |      OP      Member    Joined:  Sep 2007  Posts: 24  |    hello all, tomorrow is Dell's surgery, (laryngectomy, neck dissection and partial glossectomy) and the family is gathered tonight in good spirits, although Dell is not having a good day- lots of discomfort and fatigue. i'm just writing to update, and ask you good folks to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. we are in great hands, have wonderful doctors, and all we need now is for that wretched cancer to be taken out! but we still need your good thoughts to remain strong through this ordeal; i feel very emotionally brittle tonight and its tough to put on a positive face looking at Dell. i'll write tomorrow to update on what was found, and how the surgery went. love to all Emma        
wife to Del,dx.4/07 BOT SCC t3n3m0 3rounds chemo (5fu,cisplat,taxotere,erbitux)35 IMRT tx.with weekly erbitux.finished 9/07. 12/07 biopsies +,surgery not an option.returned to palliative chemo 2/08. 6 tx.of cisplatin/taxotere,methotrexate 8 tx. He died Aug 20,2008, but lives always in my heart.

I wish you all the luck in the world.        
     Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan.  I averaged  about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there.  w  Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube .  Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April. --- Passed away 5/14/14, will be greatly missed by everyone here

Dad had oral lichens planus, and oral leukoplakia before T2 SCC,2 nodes. DX10/23/03  IMRT 12/29/03.30 rad,3 boost. Brachytherapy 3/8-3/11/04. Recurrence Nov07 Stage IV.  4 Surgeries No rads, no chemo I have oral lichens planus, thrush,leukoplakia 2/20/08 6/2/08 biopsies "inflammation"

Caregiver to husband Dx. Stage 4 SCC of gingiva with 3 nodes pos. Partial mandiblectomy with bone graft from iliac crest Dec. 2006. IMRT x30, Cisplatin x3. Completed Tx. March 15, 2007. Osteonecrosis & removal of graft & plate Oct. 2007. Recurrence of SCC Dec. 2007.  Deceased Jan. 17, 2008.

(Stage 4a, G2/3) Tx 6/18 - 8/3/07, IMRT x 33 Cisplatin x3 (stopped after 1st dose due to hearing issues). Weekly Erbitux started 6/27/07 completed 8/6/07.

  Husband Robin aged 44 years Dx 8th Dec 2006 poorly differentiated SCC tongue with met to neck T1N2cM0 Surgery and Radiation.Finished TX April 2007 Recurrence June/07 died July 29th/07.

Anne-Marie CG to son, Paul (age 33, non-smoker) SCC Stage 2, Surgery 9/21/06, 1/6 tongue Rt.side removed, +48 lymph nodes neck. IMRTx28 completed 12/19/06. CT scan 7/8/10 Cancer-free! ("spot" on lung from scar tissue related to Pneumonia.)

  Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Make certain you take a something for him to write with so he can make his problems known to you or nurses. Make certain it has a solid surface because if they have to take artery from the arm, it will be difficult for him to write. My surgery was 14 hours and I was in ICU overnight. I don't remember having any pain but was on morphine drip overnight. I didn't use it once I was in my room. I was out of hosptial 5 days later and back to work at 8 weeks. You both will be in my thoughts today.
