On Monday we will be announcing a new collaboration with the Paltrow family, The Bruce Paltrow Oral Cancer Fund. While part of OCF they will be allowing us to use their family celebrity to raise money for OCF, and next year we will extend that to doing print public service messages with them on oral cancer. The fund in now active and our new store interface is in place with the fund in it as well. You can now make donations in any amount and not limited to some preset dollar amount. To begin reading about this (press release out in full on Monday on a national level) you can go to this page of the site http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/donations/ and at the bottom of that page click into the description of the Paltrow Fund. At a time when donations to OCF are at a 5-year low, I am hoping that this will bring us the attention of donors that do not come from the ranks of patients and their family members. National attention with a very A list name will hopefully assist OCF in making the progress to public and professional awareness that is needed, and stay active in the national dialog to change screening protocols, and offer help in areas where it isn't available. While many of you only see the side of OCF that is here on the web, we are involved with the CDC, the NCI, the FDA, the Public Health Service, the ADA and others pushing an agenda of early detection, and working on problems such as HPV vaccination, tobacco cessation and harm reduction strategies, and many other issues.

I know how hard you have been working to get this off the ground and I hope an pray that it will help to bring in those much needed funds.
Call me stupid, but I haven't given up trying to get to Warren Buffet. I didn't get any response from the email I told you I sent, so this week I wrote him a letter. I'm really not counting too much on my letter actually reaching him, but you never know!!!!

My son's medical bills have wreaked havoc on my budget -- but I'd really like to do something to help. I've been researching fundraising for the non-profit agency where I work and there seems to be a science behind writing an effective "ask". I applied the techniques to my first appeal letter for the agency and ended up with a 12% response rate. Mind if I fiddle with a sample?

I appreciate your trying Buffett. It took me three years to develop the relationship with the Paltrows. I think the name of the game is tenacity mixed with a compelling but respectful manner.

It seems my outgo now is starting to exceed my income. I live on a fixed income and this good old OC has made me watch every penny , which I'm not used to at all. Can you give me the location of the store? That way I can buy what is needed and support a little.. I would also like to thank you for this site. Seems I have a great family here and someone I can express my feelings to.

I will be emailing her about the thread tomorrow morning. The thread is here: http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/66240#Post66240She has made a long term commitment to our community, and it would be a nice gesture for her to hear from people about what they get out of OCF.
