Hi there haven't been on in a while. Trying to get on with life the way it is now. Just have a question for anyone who may be able to offer advice, Dave is now 1 month out of treatment and has some really good days as well as some really bad ones. He knows that the healing process will be a long one, but is anxious to start eating normal food. With the radiation he had to the neck the salivary glands are just not producing. Any ideas on what he may start on?????? What is the best to get those stubborn glands to work. And how long did it take any of you to start to really feel better, that have had the same treatment. Any info would be great. I think some days he feels it will never get better.I hope all of you are doing well. God Bless smile

Hi Tammyhall, It took my glands a long time to start.I'm out of my mouth cancer 16 years and finally have salivary. It's very thick.I had milk
shakes after my radiation. It takes a long while.
Your sour taste buds and sweet come back. Where is Kamloops British Columbia? What is the weather like up there?

Hi Tammy; With this first month post-rad over the recovery should start to kick in for real. At last, something good to look forward to.
As you've probably read, it is a slooowww process taking many months not weeks. Ten months out I still have very little saliva.
As for nutrition, everyone seems to have their favourite drinks, usually discovered thru trial and error. Some things are yummy for two weeks then your taste buds will change again and it taste awful; eg.I love bananas now, but for many months they tasted like iodine to me??
Simple plain flavours are the best to try, Chinese noodles and soft poached eggs went down well at first as well as diluted vanilla flavoured ensure for calories. The full strength stuff was too thick and made me gag.
Find out what he likes and keep trying, we need that nutrition to heal our frizzled tissues.
All the best,
Fran
