to a large extent i consider life insurance as a bet against my survival, so i have traditionally not carried much. its just my wife and myself and our needs are not overwhelming.

however i just had an opportunity to buy life insurnace without any medical examine and with no regard for my general health... it was the first open enrollment season in 5 yrs for government employees.

after reveiwing the cost to payout for a 10 yr period, i concluded that it was now time to bet against myself... hopefully kahty won't collect.

the reason that i mention this is that i really hardly ever pay much attention to insurance. indeed i had to make a real effort to read what this open season was offering. if you happen to have a simillar bent, i encourage you to read what's being offered and re-evaluate your situation.

man i hate to bet against myself.

cu,
larryb.... not a looser!

Wise decision, Larry.

I had to make a similar choice last year. Our company has eliminated extended sick leave, we can use what we have accumulated and have an option to purchase short term disability. I had 248 hours left of extended sick leave after my treatment last year. In order for short term disability to kick in for my cancer, it had to be in effect a year. So, this year I am paying for short term disability while I still have 248 hours to burn if I have a recurrance. So far so good, but can't risk NOT being covered.

People can tell me all they want to that I am done and not to worry, but I refuse to be in a "wish I had" situation.

Lisa in Ks <---- still remarkably unremarkable but cautious.

Larry,

I'm also with the government and was thrilled to see this chance to increase my coverage with no exam or questions asked. Three and a half years ago, while we were in the midst of dealing with surgery and doctors appointments, we missed a payment on my other life insurance policy. They would not reinstate my insurance without me re- applying. Naturally, they turned me down.

I buckle-up every time I get in my car but don't intend on getting in an accident. Same goes for the insurance, I have it but don't intend on using it!

Larry,

Can you adopt me and let me sign up for the life insurance, too? Just a thought. I would do it in a second.

Ed
