Actually my brother-in-law was wondering - not that the roles vary much-just perhaps in our own minds one thinks of women as caregivers maybe from a maternal aspect who knows , and you men please don't be offended- this is not my intent. Anyway I think he felt strange coming to this site to begin with and perhaps was looking for someone who might parallel his situation. Please no long explanations as to it doesn't matter since a caregiver is a caregiver- I agree; I am only curious as to this husband to wife model.

  Thanks again for input-

When I had a fairly major stroke several years ago, I lost the site in one eye, and was totally disorientated for 5 to 6 months. 6 weeks of all kinds of tests, on strong meds, couldn't drive, couldn't think, couldn't remember squat, couldn't cook or gro.shop. My husband was my primary caregiver, took care of our grandson who lives with us,took care of 3 pets, ran the household as well as our business. My 60 yr. old brother recently was the major caretaker for his wife for 5 months while the Docs tried to figure out what was causing disabling pain and disorientation in her brain. There are many men who are wonderful caregivers. I am sure you will hear from some here. Amy

Seems like maybe female caregivers are better at looking for their own support wheras the males may feel more of a need to tough it out on their own (I'd say that definitely describes how my husband handled caregiving when I was going through treatment).

He's the cook of the house too and makes her foods she can eat as often as possible. He takes care of the dogs, the cats, the house. He can't post though. They don't have a computer. Some men are extremely good caregivers.
