I copied your thread from the soda/salt water question so you would have a better likeliness of getting a response. Is your b/f getting chemo in addition to Radiation?

Hello everyone.
My friend is in his 3rd week of radiation now and is doing really well. The problem which is upsetting him is that he is losing his hair on the back of his head....in the middle...not the top or sides or by neck area. It is a huge bald spot.

Has anyone else experienced this?

For the person that has been getting dehydrated and finding it hard to eat or swallow, try Ensure Plus or Boost. It works and they have different flavors. It is best to drink everything with a straw.

For the person experiencing lots of pain, ask the doctor for a prescription for morphine or percocet.

I am a g/f to male, 66, Salivary cancer to Paratoid gland. Surgery with 6 weeks of radiation. He is starting his third week. He is being radiated by his ear, middle of jaw and collar bone.

Margaret,

The bald spot is from the radiation exiting from the back of the head. It happened to me and corrected itself quickly when the radiation ends. Where are you guys located in NJ? Where is he being treated?

This post was on the end of a different thread. I copied and pasted it into a new thread so that "Beth090907" would have a better shot at getting an answer. Thanks for giving her a response. I hope she sees this. Beth is the one who lives in NJ.

If it doesn't exit out the back of the head, does it exit somewhere else? My husband didn't get a bald spot.

Thanks, Rob, and I will tell my b/f that it will come back. He is being treated at Beth Israel in NYC by Dr. Persky. He had surgery to remove the maglignant tumor and is on radiation only.

Last night he lost his taste buds. He thought he was bypassing all of the side effects, but I see from reading the web and this site, the radiation side effects take time to rear its ugly head and to make his immune system strong again.

Hi, Beth, now is really the time for you to stay connected with the forum. B\F has a ways to go with the radiation and you will undoubtedly need some good support, so you can do the same for him. That's one of the best things about being here. Amy in the Ozarks

Hi Beth,
My mom completed rad about 3wks ago. I am happy to report that she can taste some of her favoite things again! Still not the sugar all the way-think that's where her tumor is. Also, mom's hair suddenly thinned out but I've noticed that recently she is looking a bit fluffier again!
I fully again with Amy, stay tuned with the forum, you will receive a lot of help from friends here!
