His last week was the worst he had suffered through. Not to say he didn't suffer with the mucocytis, but he managed to get through this entire thing without a PEG tube. In the end, I would say to anyone going through this, GET THE PEG TUBE!!!!
This past Monday he did have to be admitted to the hospital because of the severe pain. I believe that this could have been avoided if his pain was managed better. He ended up getting 150 mcg of Fentanyl intradermal patches and IV dilaudid. He had been taking Fentanyl and Roxanel (morphine by mouth), but by the time they prescribed this to him, he was in too much pain to even get the Roxanel down.
At this point, he is soley on Fentanyl and Roxanel and is doing much better after just 3 days in the hospital and getting some foods down. His is very neutropenic right now, so we have to watch this very closely.
There is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!!!
Husband Dx 4/06, Stg IVa, T1N2aM0, primary lft tonsil, treatments to begin 5/28/06.

With the pain under control, your husband should do much better. Be very careful about going out in public with a compromised immune system. I am sure you have been told about monitoring his temp and hurrying to the doc or ER if he runs one. I am the Voice of Experience, as I was celebrating the end of treatment and planning a fishing trip when my temp spiked and I spent two weeks in isolation being really sick, fighting a major, all-body infection. With luck and care, you will not have to deal with that. Just a little warning that you are not quite home free yet. But very, very close. | | |

I know how ending the rigorous schedule of treaments is such pure Joy- Make sure that you take a ton of time to sleep right now, as you may be a little depleted from your journey. I found that I started letting down about this time, and was exhausted and got more than a little depressed. Take even more care of yourself right now, because even though it seems to be over, the healing hasnt started quite yet. SOON and VERY SOON you will see more than just glimpses of your real life!! Im so happy for you guys Jennie

Jack is 2 months post treatment now and it's amazing how much better he is feeling. He did run into a series of typical problems that developed about 2 weeks after but just know that even if that happens it will get better. This forum was very helpful in knowing what to expect and how to deal with the side effects. So good to have support when you need it from people who have experienced the same things. Even though it's not over for you, it's getting there. Best wishes to you both and I hope his recovery goes smoothly. Jack and I are celebrating every single milestone because all of it is an achievement. We see the same light that you do. Regards JoAnne
