Does anyone know about Proton Radiation? I have heard it mentioned once or twice - but don't know much about it. Has anyone on here every had proton radiation instead of the traditional radiation?

If yes, do you know where you can recieve it across the US? I think that MD Anderson had a center - but didn't know if any other centers exist.

Thanks.

Amy - There is Francis H. Burton Proton Therapy Center at Mass.General, as well as Loma Linda Univ.Med.Ctr. If you do a google search for Proton Radiation Centers you will see a few.

I read the link - but was wondering if anyone on here has had it or knew of someone who has had it. Seems as right now they are using it more for things like Head and neck where they are sensitive areas. Just wondering if the side effects are the same or different than traditional radiation.

One of our thousand Amys,

If your interested there is an interesting article in the December 25, 2006 issue of ONCOLOGY TIMES titled, Use of Proton Therepy Expands. See if you can get it by going to the web site www.oncology-times.com . I had to read it about 3 times before I understood it (at least I think I do). I would scan it but the publication is an odd size, 11" by 15" so try the web first. If you can't get that way, e me and I'll try to copy and piece it together.
