Has anyone seen this yet? http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/apr2006/nidcr-10.htm

It is a fluorescent scope that is non-invasive and has correctly identified oral cancer almost 100% of the time during the studies, It sound like it might eliminate unneccessary biopsies and would speed up the process in those who get the wrong treatments b/c biopsies were delayed due to not being able to recognize it as cancer. It doesn't mention however, if it would detect tumors that haven't broke the surface of the skin.

This sounds like a great tool - I'm going to ask my dentist at my appointment next week about it. He's the one who found my cancer in the first place.

This is the culmination of over 60 million inNIH/NIDCR research grants over the last 8 years, and has been reported in the OCF in the news section some time ago. It will be available for sale, having just received its FDA approval 10 days ago, by the end of June. It is NOT specific at this time for cancer, though it does find it very accurately along with a host of other disease states in cells. So while this finds things, it is the lack of specificity that is the issue. That does not make it a less valuable device, it means that once something is found there is an interpretation issue on the part of the clinician that has to take place.

Oh - I wasn't aware it was on the website already. I just saw it today and thought I'd see if anyone else had heard of it.
