Hi everybody

Is anybody getting Amifostine during radiation treatment without prior surgery?

Any other alternatives for salivary glands protection?

Thanks,

Les confused

Les,

I myself didn't have any aids for my salivary glands, but I know it has been discussed on these boards. And there is information on the main site, too.

Try a search "Amifostine, salagen" Hopefully you'll find some good information.

Take care,
Dinah

Les, a friend entering week three of rad w/o prior surgery is tolerating the Amifostine well. The only alternative I know of is IMRT, which targets specific places and can be programmed to miss the parotid glands, or at least some of them. As Dinah suggests, do a search of the main site for lots more information, and a search of this forum for prior discussions.
