I myself didn't have any aids for my salivary glands, but I know it has been discussed on these boards. And there is information on the main site, too.
Try a search "Amifostine, salagen" Hopefully you'll find some good information.

The only alternative I know of is IMRT, which targets specific places and can be programmed to miss the parotid glands, or at least some of them.
