#35984 09-26-2002 11:44 AM | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 273 Platinum Member (200+ posts) | Platinum Member (200+ posts) Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 273 | Well, i had modified radical done on both sides at once.........all the staples were out in about 10 days, drains were out before them........it wasn`t half as bad as radiation........i know thinking about it is overwhelming, but healing usually happens pretty quickly..........I came home with really no nursing care at all..........waiting for the surgery is the tough part........I know, I`m waiting for more reconstructive surgery on Monday!!!!!!!!!!  | | |

When I did get home I felt terrific but looked a little weird because of the swelling. I did lateral massage on it and the results were fast and amazing. Don't sweat this one. It is a piece of cake compared to radiation and chemo. You will do fine and like the rest of us, wonder why you worried so much. | | |

SCC first time 1989, with a diagnoses of 'cancer in situ' removed lesion, no other treatments. SCC recurrence 1997 of tongue and floor of the mouth. Stage III /IV Hemmiglossectomy (removed over 60% of tongue/ floor of the mouth), free flap, modified neck, RAD and Chemo(cisplatin, 5fu) simutainously. Cancer free 6, yes, six, years!
