I have a blood disorder called itp....which means i have low platelets.. I had a baby in january..when i was pregnant i got it. It comes and goes. When my platelets are up my gums are fine and the lump is gone. Yet my platelets are low now and its back. my gums in front look horrid. I made an appointment with my dentist for tuesday. I am terrified. could this be any type of gum cancer at all??? my body goes whacky when i get sick. can you get tumors in the gums>????? the front of my 2 top teeth the gums are very sensitive and they bleed so easily. after i had my daughter, i was brushing my teeth and the lump fell off. i took some tissue and looked at it. it was pink and there were little blood vessels it looked like. Sorry you needed to find us. A tumor can develop anywhere in the body. I am no expert, some of the folks on this forum are much more knowledgeable and can give you a better technical answer. You have done the right thing, though, to have a dentist look at the situation. For peace of mind, you might also want to locate an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist (ENT) to look at it as well as some dentists are not properly trained to recognise cancer. You could even go to a comprehensive cancer center for diagnosis, but I think you should start where you are, at the dentist. Whatever the result, we are here to help you and will be interested in the result. Just remember what we always say, "It isn't cancer until the pathologist says it is". So try not to worry too much, as it could be many other things, such as infection, hormonal issues from the pregnancy, etc. You will be in my prayers for a clean bill of health and a "no cancer" report. Let us know what happens, please.

If the lump isn't consistent, I doubt it is cancer. Tumors don't normally come and go. You are doing the right thing by having it checked. I wouldn't worry too much. It sounds more like it is somehow related to your blood disorder.

Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm a surviving caregiver and can't help but fret until our survivors are "out of the woods". Forgive me if I sound like a mom.
Have you had any specific treatment for your ITP? Do you have acute or chronic? When was the last time you saw your hematologist? I only ask because in some cases doctors recommend spleenectomy to treat ITP (and it appears quite successfully in many cases). My sister had a spleenectomy (not because of the disorder) but was concerned about her body's ability to fight infection and the doctor mentioned spleenectomy is actually a viable treatment for this rare condition.
Be sure you follow up with your hematologist (he/she should be keeping close tabs on your treatment/status for the ITP) as well as the ENT. Because of the complications and possibility of recurrent bouts with ITP (or TTP) you want to be sure you cut off any advancement/future flare ups. Be sure you take care of you so you can take care of your little one.
Keep us posted. I will send good thoughts and prayers your way.
