Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 4 | Hi all I am awaiting a biopsy which is right away...but this waiting is very difficult. I was looking for some information on my symptoms and dont see much and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with a white patch on the roof of their mouth. It is incredibly itchy and it hurts most of the time.It is raised meaning i cna feel it and discovered it because of the itching.and my tongue feels like its been dipped in antiseptic near the back. I know you all arent doctors but i was just wondering if anyone had any experience with something in that area and could share some of their symptoms as I could not find alot of information. Diagnosed May 2002 with Stage IV tongue cancer, two lymph nodes positive. Surgery to remove 1/2 tongue, neck dissection, 35 radiation treatments. 11/2007, diagnosed with cancer of soft palate, surgery 12/14/07, jaw split. 3/24/10, cancer on tongue behind flap, need petscan, surgery scheduled 4/16/10

Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 207 | While I can't speak to what might be the issue in your mouth, I can totally relate to waiting on biopsy results. I went through this a couple of weeks ago, and everytime the phone rang my heart jumped into my throat, and my pulse went into overdrive...
As hard as it is, try to relax... It's good that you're taking action to find out what's going on... let us know how things turn out... and welcome aboard!
Tongue cancer (SCC), diagnosed Oct. 2003 (T2 N0 M0). Surgery to remove tumor. IMRT Radiation 30x in Dec 2003 - Jan. 2004. Recurrence lymph node - radical neck dissection June 2004. Second round of rad/chemo treatments ended Sept. 2004.

I had a white patch on my tongue very similar to what you're describing and mine ended up being dysplasia (pre-cancerous) Even though it's dysplasia they still want to take it all out. If they didn't get clean margins of normal tissue they may have to go back and get the rest. Here's hoping that they got everything. The waiting game is the worst.

I really didn't have to wait for any of my biopsies except the very first one and now that it's been a year, I don't remember what it was like. I can imagine how apprehensive it must be. I don't have any answers for you but I will certainly be praying for good results from your biopsy. Welcome aboard!

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

Stress is something we are very familiar with. You can have some success controlling those feelings. The expression living in the moment is key, at this moment you are ok. Just keep telling yourself you are ok until you KNOW differently. Believe me I also know that isn't always easy.
