I am getting very discouraged, scared and depressed. I still cannot eat solid food with the exception of a few things that taste horrible, but they can get down my throat. My saliva has not returned at all and I'm afraid I'm going to be one of the unfortunate victims of OC that never gets it back. My last radiation treatment was March 11, 2019 and my PEG tube was removed in July. I have been drinking 1750 calories of Ensure everyday since to maintain my weight. I'm concerned about all of the sugar I'm taking in because it is horrible on my teeth and not good for my body but it does provide me with some good nutrients too. Each 8 0z bottle is 350 calories so it's not that hard to only have to drink 5 bottles a day and I'm good. Especially when I do not have an appetite. My doctors have told me 6 months to a year to recover, and they said however you are in a year is pretty much how you're gonna be. Damn!! If I have only recovered this tiny bit in 6 months I seriously doubt I'll be enjoying a sandwich 6 months from now. Has anyone out there heard of an OC patient whose recovery sped up after 6 months? Also, do any of you eat sandwiches anymore and enjoy them? Are any of you able to eat pizza? Do any of you actually enjoy eating as much as you did before? Thanks for any input anyone out there can give me. I don't think I properly prepared myself for this eating challenge. Gosh, that sounds so petty knowing what so many of you are dealing with and have dealt with. I feel truly blessed right now and I pray it never comes back.

Thankful girl,

I feel you pain! So many of us were on the same situation and wondered if we would ever eat again! To be honest, maybe a small percentage don’t, but I think the majority do like myself!

I stayed watching food tv shoes, even directing people to cook. I watched food tv shows and had dozens of food magazines. I started to explore bu just putting food in my mouth, spitting it out just to get the taste. Slowly i added food I thought were easy to swallow. I did that and kept improving. It didn’t happen overnight of course, but I was eating away!

I has several books like easy to swallow and chew or something like that. Today I posed a link on another members page with links to books on eating, chewing. There are many web pages if you look and sites for dysphagia,

Good luck!
