Joined: Feb 2015 Posts: 17 | I had pain for 6 days on my left side of my mouth. I was unable to hardly eat at all and really scared. I called my cancer Dr. and even though he was on leave for having his 3rd child he told me to come on in. I thought it was a reoccurence, I hoped it was just a rotten tooth. Turns out it was a minor mouth infection that he gave me a prescription for. Trying so hard for my head not to rule my body..but sometimes it does. Thankful today.
I am a 65 year old reitired woman. I have been married to a great man for 42 years. I had a right breast masectomy 15 years ago.
squamous cell carcinoma under my tongue was diagnosed earlier this month. I had surgery 2/3/15. 22 lymph nodes out of my neck came back negative for metasis. The Drs. say I do not need chemo or radiation. I'm off the feeding tube and now on a liquid/soft food diet. I see the surgeon again next week. I am grateful and optimistic.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Its very difficult for any of us to not panic whenever we have a "symptom" pop up. I guess thats part of the transition from being a cancer patient with the patient mindset to becoming a survivor. We have all been there at some point. Myself, Ive had more false alarms than I would like to count. Who would have imagined the day would come where we would hope for a rotten tooth? One positive thing about all this is that you are now acutely aware of your body and pay attention to anything that is out of the ordinary. You now will take action where before cancer you probably would have waited it out, not worrying and hoping it was no big deal. Congrats on your false alarm

Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,264 Likes: 4 | Yes soo happy it was just an infection. It's hard for our mind not to go there... Its been a long time for me - almost 4.5 years since I finished rads, and I still have THOSE moments... Hugs and take care of yourself.

Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 69 Likes: 1 | Glad to hear it was nothing serious! I get the fear of various pains and swelling occasionally. One of the side effects of treatment for me is hypochondria.
Oropharyngeal Cancer, SCC, HPV 16+, stage IV T1N2b age 45
Started in my tonsils and spread to my lymph nodes
Cisplatin x3 with concurrent daily radiation treatments started 10/22/13 finished 12/6/2013
