The side effects have been some Mucositis of course but my moms been able to tolerate it. The last couple of days I've noticed my moms hair falling out. My mom still had beautiful thick black hair. I assured her we will get a hair piece and she will still look just as beautiful as ever.
Seems like my mom has a little more energy lately .She's been getting out of bed a lot more. The color in her face looks a lot better also. I'm thinking maybe this treatment is helping her . She has only taken one of these treatments so far. Her second one is on Tuesday and I hope the results get better and better.
As for the open wound on my mothers neck the Surgical Oncologist packed it and a nurse is coming to the house everyday to change it. The Oncologist said this happens when the tumor losses its blood supply and the tumor is dieing. Were praying other tumors don't start to grow around it. I really don't understand a lot of all this but i'm trying to educate myself on it.
Hope everyone is doing well and I wish you all the very best. Heidi

Hopefully things continue to improve! Your mom and my dad seem to be experiencing many of the same things and side effects. My dads hair is also started to fall out and he's seeing lots of skin issues, but his chemo recipe includes Erbitux. I know each case is different regarding open wounds, but my dads oncologist also told us that bleeding and wound breakdown occur when tumors are dying (which obv is great) sometimes these wounds also open up when there is a lot of fluid buildup, say if there's lot of swelling, it's the body's way of coping and getting rid of that fluid. My dad started chemo 4 weeks ago and has his ups and downs, but his pain and swelling has decreased dramatically. Of course there's mucositis and the wound breakdown, but it's a net benefit. Best of luck and keep me posted!

Yes I think your dad and my mom have similar cases. I'm so happy your father is feeling better. After you told me about your father wounds being packed I mentioned it to my mother. The Surgical Oncologist also thought it would be best to pack the wound. Thanks so much for sharing that information with me. It has helped a lot . When the doctor mentioned the Tumor dieing due to losing its blood supply I got really happy. But then again I was reading about tumors searching for new blood supply in other parts of the body to survive. That wouldn't be good news at all. I guess its a wait and see what happens next.
But for now I'm happy my mother has also gotten some relief from the pain and swelling.
Thanks again Heidi

Just watching her get out of bed and walking around the house is a big plus to me. She was at the point where she couldn't get out of bed other than go to the bathroom. It must be the Chemo helping her. I know its only palliative care but we will continue to ride out the storm.
Thanks Heidi
