In 7 days I will have most, if not all of my soft palate removed. My sinuses will be exposed to the oral cavity for at least 3 weeks while the prothesis is being made. Surgeon says Nasal feeding tube might be needed. Well I'm not sure what to expect after surgery... I'm looking for wisdom folks on what to expect, and ways to deal with what's coming. Richard, Im very sorry to read what you will be going thru. Im wishing you the very best with your upcoming surgery. If you havent already begun to eat like crazy not is crunch time. Have all your favorites so you dont go into this having cravings. Three weeks with a nasal tube in my opinion is being conservative. It could be longer.

Another pointer is not to be afraid to ask for pain meds. If you are uncomfortable tell them, dont minimize it and try to tough it out. Being in pain has never helped a patient recover faster, it only makes them hurt. If you can have someone with you during waking hours that would be great. You would have someone there to watch out for your best interests and speak up for you, in case you arent able to advocate for yourself.

I had all my hard palate removed and nasal cavity too. I was told I'd need a month in hospital but with my brilliant surgeon I was home the next day. I had a temporary obturator to fill the gap and packing for the first 6 weeks. I didn't have a feeding tube and ate ok. We all react differently I was very gung-ho ! I'm getting on with it!
