From past 1 year, on my cheek ( buccal mucosa) there is a white patch, i went to ENT Dr. and he send me for a biopsy, and my biopsy report says, Chronic inflammation, hyperplastic squamous epithelium. 1)Can anybody tell me what is the meaning of this? 2)Can hyperplastic squamous epithelium become oral cancer? 3)why i feel something in my cheek (like swollen buccal gland)?
My Dr. said there is nothing to worry about and all the symptom are due to your anxiety, Please guide me, i am so paranoid.
Thanks, harry

My ENT Dr. removed it completely(1.5cm in diameter before excision), but after excision it came back after 2 months, but now it is small in size as compared to before excision, but it is constantly increasing in size, but my ENT Dr. said do not worry about it, Then i went to another ENT Dr. he also said no need biopsy again. i am bit worried about Oral cancer. I stopped smoking but drink occasionally Thanks

Many studies suggest that stopping smoking will not decrease your risk of cancer for as many as 30 years after you stop. The cardiovascular improvements begin almost immediately. Most longer term studies are isolated to lung cancer., however. Drinking could also cause problems.
Harry, there was an interesting study published that showed eating blue raspberries might protect the mouth enough to slow down the progression of leukoplakia into cancer.

Do keep an eye on it. Also is there something else in the area that could be causing chronic irritation? A tooth or something rubbing up against it? I would go see your ENT every few months - Be proactive. This can turn into cancer. The percentage doesn't matter the reality is it will either happen or it won't there is no safety in numbers. best of luck.

Be eliminating the things that are causing your mouth issues you will be doing all you can to ensure your good health. Any tobacco use is not good including chewing tobacco. Avoid it at all costs.
